Kington Camp

Richard Cunningham Arrives at 122nd

Mr Cunningham was in the Coldstream Guards and was sent to Kington Camp after VE Day in 1945 when the site had been vacated by the Americans. The Coldstream Guards were at this time part of Churchill's intention to take British troops on to fight in Japan, but the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki meant that these plans were cancelled. Mr Cunningham instead went on to be posted in the Middle East.
