Kington Camp

Purple hearts

A Purple HeartUS military wounded in battle are entitled to a Purple Heart, a heart-shaped medal with a purple ribbon. If they are wounded subsequently then they are entitled to add an oak-leaf cluster to their Purple Heart.

We are compiling a database from the award listings of the 122nd Hospital. The listings only contain information about rank, name, number, date of injury and the US state that the individual entered the army from. We hope it will assist those who are looking for information about their relatives' WW2 history. We will be adding to this database and will expand it to include military personnel who worked at the 107th and the 122nd hospitals.

Although there are some individuals who were wounded at the beginning of June, most of the people treated at Kington were wounded between August 1944 and May 1945. Many came from the Battle of the Bulge.

If you have relatives who were treated or worked at the camp, please do get in touch.

We are currently create the online interface for the Purple Hearts database. While we prepare it you can download the listings as an Excel spreadsheet.
